Colorado Mountain Dogs

So, what is the actual breed cross of a Colorado Mountain Dog?

The Colorado Mountain Dog is not a specific breed cross. Currently the CMD may consist of Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherd, Boz, Maremma, Kuvasz, Akbash, or other livestock guardian working group breeds. Dogs that pull up other breeds in a DNA test are considered on a dog by dog basis.

For more about this breed, please visit our Colorado Mountain Dog Registry

The Colorado Mountain Dog (CMD) is a devoted and reliable Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD) specifically bred for family farms and ranches with their most unique trait being their predictable acceptance of human visitors to the farm. They tend to roam less and bark less than most LGDs and won't trap your guests in their cars.

Not only are they friendly but they also protect your family and farm animals from bears, mountain lions, coyotes and other predators.

Our program is dedicated to producing healthy livestock guardians who are intelligent, independent, and happy to do the job they were bred to do. You will find them to be a valuable asset to your farm.

Our Dogs

We feel very blessed to have found the Colorado Mountain Dog.

Our dogs take their job seriously in protecting our farm from predators and they love hanging out with their human pack as well.

These dogs are, hands down, the best Livestock Guardian Dogs, in our opinion and yes, of course, we are partial.

Atka

CNK Atka of TCF
G3 - Female

Atka (an Inuit name meaning guardian spirit) is our first CMD. She came to be with us shortly after we lost our 18 year old Border Collie, Gabby. Atka has such a gentle spirit just like Gabby did. Neither was your ordinary puppy.

Colorado Mountain Dogs: What's Happening

Occasionally, we'll hold back a few dogs for evaluation which gives us an opportunity to really get to know their personalities, and by doing so they get more exposure to livestock and a longer time spent with their mentoring dogs.

All of our dogs are in with livestock 24/7. These three are now 11 months old, come from working stock, and have been exposed to goats, chickens, rabbits, pigs, ducks and geese, as well as children and cats.

They have been vet checked and vaccinated and each dog is registered with the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry (CMDR)
